RIASEC FAQ
A local interest reflection, not a skills test or an occupation-matching service.
What does RIASEC describe?
Holland's model describes six vocational interest areas: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. They concern activities and environments you may enjoy. Interests are not demonstrated skills, aptitude, values, employability, or a prediction of career success.
What are the six interest areas?
Realistic concerns hands-on activities; Investigative concerns inquiry and analysis; Artistic concerns expression and design; Social concerns helping and teaching; Enterprising concerns persuading and initiating; Conventional concerns records, procedures, and organized data. You can enjoy several areas, and each activity can draw on more than one.
What questionnaire is offered here?
The local form has 36 items, six per area, answered with agreement options. It is not the O*NET Interest Profiler or another identified published inventory. Some statements include self-rated ability and work style, but no response demonstrates actual skill. Item provenance, adaptation history, and permission records still need verification.
Is the local form scientifically validated?
This implementation has not been empirically validated. Research on Holland's model or a published interest inventory does not validate our questions, scoring, or interpretations. There is no supported local accuracy percentage, reliability coefficient, or evidence that its rankings predict job satisfaction or performance.
Will my results give me a Holland Code or matched careers?
No. The local results summarize and rank six scores under Career Interests, not measured strengths or skills. They do not generate a three-letter Holland Code or provide occupation matching. Suggestions are generic optional activities, not an occupation database or a job-fit assessment.
What is a Holland Code, then?
Some career resources summarize leading interest areas with three letters, such as S-A-I for Social, Artistic, and Investigative. That convention is model background, not an output promised here. Do not force tied or close local scores into a meaningful three-letter order. The separate O*NET Interest Profiler has its own occupation-linking process.
Are my scores percentiles or skill percentages?
Neither. They use a 0-100 response scale, with minimum, neutral, and maximum agreement responses mapping to 0, 50, and 100. There are no population norms. A score is not a rank among other people, the percentage of a skill you possess, or a probability of career success. Response-range labels are display bands, not validated or diagnostic cutoffs.
What if several areas tie, or I disagree with the ranking?
You can have several interests and can reject a result that does not fit. Ties and small differences do not establish a single best path. Consider unfamiliar activities, your current circumstances, and the limits of the questions. A low score is not proof that you cannot learn or enjoy something later.
How long does it take, and is it free?
Standard: 36 questions, about 3-6 minutes. Estimates allow 5-10 seconds per question, rounded up to whole minutes. Your pace may vary. The local form is free. These are estimates, not measured completion times. Allow extra time for unfamiliar activities.
How can I use the result responsibly?
Use it for voluntary educational reflection. Try a small activity, research actual job tasks, and consider training, skills, values, pay, access, and life constraints. Do not use it for diagnosis, treatment planning, hiring, promotion, educational placement, or eligibility decisions. It does not certify suitability for a role or replace appropriate career guidance.
Is it suitable for every age and career stage?
No local target-population evidence establishes suitability for every age, language, or career stage. Experience and access affect how you understand work activities. Educators and employers should not use these results to place or screen people. Changed scores later do not prove a meaningful change in interests.
Are my results saved to an account or private when shared?
Completed results are link-only, not an account-backed history. Their URLs contain encoded scores, assessment identity, and completion date. Anyone with the link can read the result; encoding is not encryption. Signing in alone does not save your result to an account.
